This is because the 天 heavens are 睽 staring down on him, and he can feel it with his turtle senses. In fact, the 天 heavens have ripped off the roof of the beach house, and the inside is now illuminated by the unrelenting 日 sun and slowly filling with sand as Koopa Troopa hides from the heavenly 睽 stare.
