He is watching the monks perform a weird sort of ceremony where they put an 辰 ornament on the altar and smash it with a 曲 stake. Ned, a devout Christian, 噥 mutters "heathens" with his 口 mouth and all of the monks look at him. Luckily they couldn't hear him because he just 噥 muttered it.
