Once you complete a lesson for an item, it will be considered a new item. New items are items that you have done a lesson for, but may not be truly familiar with yet.
A new item becomes a familiar item once it has been reviewed multiple times in a row successfully.
You can see your current set of new items by looking at the newly learned items section of the dashboard.
To prevent you from being overloaded with new items, HanziHero limits the number of new items you can have at a time There are four item types: components, sounds, characters, and words.
The maximum number of new items you can have is related to your daily lesson limit. Specifically, it is three times your configured daily lesson limit.
The purpose of HanziHero is not to learn components or sounds per se, but instead to learn characters. If you keep on learning new components and sounds but never become familiar with them, then all of your lessons will continue to be components and sounds instead of characters!
By having a built-in new item limit, we ensure that the lessons you get are diverse, useful, and well-rounded.
We have it configured at three times your daily lesson limit in relation to the three times you need to successfully review an item before it becomes familiar. This way, if you are finishing your reviews with 100% correct, this limit will not affect you in practice.
